Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has jumped to the defence of under-fire manager Arsene Wenger, as reported by Goal.
The Armenian international has only been at the Emirates since January but has acknowledged the scrutiny that is currently surrounding his manager’s future with the Gunners. This pressure was compounded by the team’s humiliating 3-0 defeat in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
It’s not the easiest time for the club, but we are here to help, do our best, and put Arsenal on the level that it was before. I know it’s not going to be easy, but we’re trying, and doing our best. It’s a pleasure to work with [Wenger]. He knows a lot about football, he can give you good advice, and I’m very happy to be here.

Mkhitaryan started his Arsenal career brightly, shining in their thumping win over Everton on his full home debut. However, he has since struggled to develop consistency under Wenger.
The French tactician put pen to paper on a new two-year contract at the end of last season, with his decision being met by a massively mixed reception from the Arsenal faithful.
Of course it’s not very easy for him either, but we have to play for the club, play for him, because he is a big role model for this team, big person at this club, so we have to do our best to show we are ready to fight for him.
Wenger has snubbed questions regarding his future in recent times and has insisted that his focus remains on helping Arsenal achieve a successful season after a difficult period in recent times.
