Arsenal gave up Evans pursuit to complete other deals
Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for West Brom defender Jonny Evans in January but didn’t pursue a deal in order to complete other transfers.
A report by the Daily Mail claims that the Gunners were interested in signing the player in January, but prioritised deals for both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
West Brom were reportedly ready to sell the Northern Ireland international, but only for the right price.
Arsenal’s stance on the deal softened when it became known that the player would be available for as little as £3 million in the summer, should West Brom drop into the Championship.
With the Baggies seven points off Huddersfield in 17th place, relegation seems inevitable for Alan Pardew’s men.
Evans has found his name in the headlines again over the past week after he was named as one of the four players involved in an incident involving a taxi during a warm-weather training camp in Barcelona.
