Arsenal scout Napoli pair in RB Leipzig clash
Arsenal reportedly had scouts in attendance for Napoli’s 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig in the Europa League last night.
The Gunners were able to comprehensively defeat Ostersunds away from home in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 clash, but they apparently also sent representatives to keep tabs on Maurizio Sarri’s side.
According to a report from Italian news outlet Calciomercato, as cited by Football Italia, the Gunners’ scouting mission was with the purpose of watching Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly along with tricky winger Lorenzo Insigne.
Towering centre-back Koulibaly has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and with Arsenal still struggling to remedy their defensive problems, he could well be an option for Arsene Wenger.
Meanwhile, Insigne has been a key player for Napoli over the years and his pace and attacking flair seems to have piqued Arsenal’s interest.
However, it is stated that during their scouting mission, Arsenal were impressed by RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. The German international had a superb game and played a huge part in Leipzig’s triumph at the Stadio San Paolo.
