Arsenal are evidently extremely keen to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the Emirates Stadium this month.
Following the departure of Alexis Sanchez and the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, it seems Arsenal want to make another statement signing and Aubameyang appears to be at the top of their list.
The Gunners want to add another quality attacker to the ranks and Aubameyang has been linked heavily in recent times. However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, as quoted by Sky Sports, has admitted that a deal between his side and Borussia Dortmund for the Gabon international is not close yet.
Confident or not confident, I don’t know. You never know how close you are. This is the kind of thing – he is one of the possible movements, but we have other things in mind as well. We have plenty of opportunities and the final decision is not made.
At the moment we are not close to any deal, Aubameyang or anybody else. The negotiations are not as far as that.
Arsenal may be in talks regarding a move for Aubameyang but it seems they are still some way away from reaching an agreement with Dortmund, who are reported to be keen on receiving no less than £60m from the sale of their star man.
Gunners forward Olivier Giroud is also wanted by Dortmund, which could lead to him being involved in a part-exchange deal with Aubameyang.
