Arsene Wenger to block Welbeck’s move to Besiktas
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to block Danny Welbeck’s proposed move to Turkish club Besiktas, according to a report on Fanatik.
The striker has been heavily linked with a move to Turkey, with Besiktas keen to replace Cenk Tosun, who recently joined Everton.
Welbeck is reportedly open to making the move as he looks to secure more first-team action in a bid to force himself into the England squad ahead of the World Cup this summer.
However, after having already losing Theo Walcott to Everton and Alexis Sanchez looking increasingly likely to join Manchester United, Wenger is not ready to let Welbeck leave this month.
The good news for the striker is that he may now get more first-team opportunities for the remainder of the season if he manages to keep himself fit.
The forward’s season has been spoilt by injuries which have kept him out of action for long periods, which has not allowed him to build up any momentum or confidence.
Welbeck was on target for the Gunners in their embarrassing 4-2 defeat in the FA Cup third round against Nottingham Forest and also started against Bournemouth in the 2-1 loss last weekend.
