According to the Daily Mirror, Jack Wilshere is set to receive a new Arsenal contract during expected talks which are set to commence next week.
Wilshere’s current contract runs out this summer and is currently available on a free transfer in June, but he is set to open talks about his future with the Arsenal hierarchy.
Arsenal look like they are ready to begin a formal contract offer to Wilshere. Rumours last week suggested that Wilshere could’ve been on his way out of the Emirates Stadium with Marseille reportedly interested in the English midfielder. However, Wilshere is intent on snubbing all of the offers made for him to stay at Arsenal and remain a fan favourite at the North London club.
It looks like Wilshere is on his way to achieving that goal after proving his fitness in recent weeks and returning to the starting line-up. Given his injury record over the course of his career, Arsenal understandably want to drop Wilshere’s basic wage from £90,000 a week.
However, the nature of the deal would be largely based on incentive. His starting salary will be less, however, he will be getting bonuses for playing regularly and this could see him earn more than what he is currently.
Wilshere’s goal against Chelsea was his first Premier League goal since May 2015. He has started each of the club’s previous six Premier League games and was seen as important enough to be rested in Arsenal’s FA Cup third-round defeat to Nottingham Forest 4-2, which saw many senior stars rested as well.
