Arsenal played out a goalless draw with London rivals Chelsea in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie at Stamford Bridge this evening in what was an exciting encounter.
Both sides kept it understandably tight due to it only being the first leg to set the match up perfectly for the return leg at the Emirates in a couple of weeks time.
After struggling in their respective cups ties in the FA Cup ties at the weekend it was crucial for both sides that they remained difficult to beat and not lose this encounter.
The sides have met a number of times this season and this result followed the pattern with it being an incredibly tight encounter despite, neither side really offering much in front of goal on a frustrating night for both sides in London.
Here is how I rated Arsenal’s players following the first leg at Stamford Bridge.
David Ospina- 6
Coped with everything which was thrown at him but was largely kept quiet.
Hector Bellerin-6
Tried to get down the right on a number of occasions but his quality was left to desired for.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles- 7
Another strong performance from the youngster as he continues to impress on the big stage
Callum Chambers-7
Performed well in a strong defensive shape for the Gunners and looks well composed at this level.
Shkodran Mustafi-6
Led the defense well throughout and can be happy with his nights work.
Rob Holding-7
Responded well after a poor performance at the weekend at Forest and looked back to his best
Jack Wilshere-7
Was forced off early but ran the midfield whilst he was on the pitch.
Granit Xhaka-6
Performed well in the midfield and is starting to get back to his best.
Alex Iwobi- 5
Struggled on the night and looks devoid of confidence in recent weeks.
Danny Welbeck-6
Struggled to really make an impact in an attacking sense but performed well in defensive areas.
Alexandre Lacazette-6
Much like Welbeck the Frenchman struggled to get into the game and looks short of confidence.
Subs
Mohamed Eleney- 6 Came on for Wilshere and led the midfield well in his cameo.
Alexis Sanchez- 6 Struggled to really make an impact when he came on for the final 25 minutes.
