Rio Ferdinand believes Arsenal are going “backwards”
Manchester United legend and BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he believes Arsenal are going “backwards” under manager Arsene Wenger after the 0-0 draw against West Ham United at the London Stadium, according to a report on the Mirror.
The Gunners looked lacklustre in the draw last night and were lucky to even gain a point after the Hammers hit the woodwork late in the game.
Ferdinand says that he feels for Arsenal fans who have to put up with the deterioration of their side over the last couple of years.
Tell me where the progress is with this side because that’s what you look for year in and year out. You look for progression within a football club, I don’t see it.
I see players going backwards. I don’t see players improving dramatically under this regime and that is the worrying part for me.
Arsenal have dropped to seventh place in the Premier League table, behind high-flying Burnley and arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are in fourth position.
The Gunners were confident of a title challenge before the season started but will now be happy with a top-four place to secure a UEFA Champions League position for next season, but even that looks like it will be a struggle for this poor Arsenal side.
£50m signing Alexandre Lacazette was left on the bench which had fans fuming and ultimately, the Gunners got lucky and escaped with a point.
