Ozil’s agent gives Barca a two week deadline
Mesut Ozil’s agent has reportedly given FC Barcelona and manager Ernesto Valverde a two-week deadline to hear their offer if they wish to soon sign the 29-year-old, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Mesut Ozil’s contract runs out in the summer of 2018, meaning he is able to talk to other clubs on a pre-contract agreement for a free transfer away from the Emirates in the January transfer window in under three weeks.
The German international has been linked with Catalan giants Barcelona, arch rivals of his former club Real Madrid, as well as a move to Manchester United, where he would work under his former boss at the Santiago Bernabeu, José Mourinho.
Ernesto Valverde reportedly sees Mesut Ozil as a second choice to fellow Central Attacking Midfielder who is wanted by Barcelona, Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, who would cost them more than £100m.
Ozil has turned down a £235,000 per week contract offer from Arsene Wenger, as he wishes to earn £300,000 per week, which would make him the highest paid player in Arsenal’s history.
However, he has told his agent that he wishes to know within the next two weeks what Barcelona’s offer is, so he is able to know if a move there is possible, even though it is reported that Ozil would prefer a move to the red half of Manchester.
Although, he is still an Arsenal player and if Barcelona do not meet his requirements, he may stay at the Emirates.
