Mustafi passionately denies rumours of Arsenal exit
Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has played down rumours of him wanting to leave the club after a terrific performance from the German in the north London derby victory at the Emirates, according to a report on the International Business Times.
The centre-back has long been linked with a move away from the Gunners but the defender had some strong words to rubbish the claims.
What happens in the changing room is the real thing. I don’t understand why people just talk about things they cannot know about. If I have been talking to clubs or if I haven’t, it’s only rumours.
Obviously there are so many newspapers, they need something to write because it’s boring if the paper is empty. I’m standing in front of you in an Arsenal shirt.
The defender had missed six weeks of the season through a thigh injury but returned in fine form to score and keep a clean sheet against Tottenham.
Inter Milan were seemingly the closest club to persuading Mustafi to leave the Premier League club last summer but the German insists that all thoughts of leaving are firmly put behind him.
The focus is now on keeping fit for the remainder of the season and to help Arsenal to challenge for silverware and for a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.
Mustafi is also keen to hit top form before the 2018 World Cup in Russia to help his chances of a starting spot for Germany in the tournament.
