Redknapp backs Rodgers to replace Wenger
Arsenal should seriously consider appointing Brendan Rodgers as their next manager, according to pundit Jamie Redknapp.
The Gunners are in a difficult situation with current boss Arsene Wenger at the moment, with him still under-performing despite being rewarded with a two-year contract extension in the summer.
However, as quoted by Goal, the former Liverpool player discussed the possible options for Arsenal to explore in terms of new managers, and believes Rodgers is a perfect fit.
Without a shadow of a doubt, he (Rodgers) ticks every box. At Liverpool, he was harshly done-by, but these things happen and, once you start to get a few bad results, the crowd maybe start to go against you.
That’s football, but it doesn’t make Brendan Rodgers a bad manager. He’s turned it around and shown everybody how good he is.
The Celtic boss has enjoyed a hugely successful tenure in Scotland, but could be tempted by a return to the Premier League should it come about.
Rodgers was a big hit during his spell with Swansea, and came close to a Premier League title with Liverpool, before he was eventually sacked.
If you’re Arsenal in a few years, once Arsene Wenger decides to retire, if he ever does, I’m sure he’ll be on their radar. I hope the Celtic fans don’t have a go at me for that, but he’s that good a manager.
However, he looks to have developed massively during his time with Celtic, and Redknapp clearly believes that a move to Arsenal would suit all parties involved.
