Arsenal are reportedly set to go head-to-head with Tottenham Hotspur in January for Premier League-winning winger Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City.

According to The Mirror, both north London clubs are interested in signing the Algerian international, who attracted the attentions of Roma, Manchester United and Barcelona in the summer transfer window, but stayed at Leicester City.

Mahrez made it clear that he wanted to leave the Foxes, who are nowhere near the level they performed at when they shocked the world by winning the Premier League, but the club turned down bids for Mahrez, arguably their best player, and he was forced to remain at the King Power Stadium.

The Mirror report that Mahrez is valued at around £30 million — which could be a good price for Arsenal as they face the risk of losing Alexis Sanchez in January, as his contract expires at the end of the season.

Tottenham themselves are looking to add depth to their squad as they attempt to push on in European competition alongside their efforts to top the Premier League table — having come close, but not close enough, to the title in each of the last two seasons.

Mahrez is currently in his fourth season of Premier League football, having moved to Leicester from Le Havre when the Foxes were still a Championship side.
