Wenger to assess Sanchez’s fitness
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is to assess Alexis Sanchez’s fitness ahead of his side’s clash against Watford on Saturday.
The attacker is set to fly back into London on Thursday having spent the international break with his native Chile, in what was a disappointing end to their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Sanchez played for his country against Brazil only on Wednesday, and Wenger believes that he received some “special treatment” throughout the match.
Quoted by the Evening Standard, Wenger had this to say about Sanchez’s condition:
I will have to speak to him. Yesterday afternoon I watched the Brazil vs Chile game to see how difficult it was.
I must say he got some special treatment – it was a very physical game and mentally I will have to assess the situation.
The Frenchman also admitted today that a departure for Sanchez, along with other key player Mesut Ozil, in January is a strong possibility. Both players’ contracts expire in the summer, and they will be free to discuss moves to foreign clubs in January should they wish.
Wenger will hope to have Sanchez available for selection on Saturday as his side take the trip to Watford.
