Arsenal had to settle for a point against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners travelled to Stamford Bridge off the back of a 3-1 win over FC Koln in the Europa League on Thursday evening, and were hoping to secure another win in the Premier League.
Chelsea, too, headed into the game in good form. They’d turned over Azerbaijani outfit Qarabag in their Champions League opener on Tuesday, and were keen to claim yet another scalp over their London rivals.
It was a toughly-contested encounter, with both sides having their fair share of chances. Aaron Ramsey hit the post, most notably, before Alexandre Lacazette ballooned the rebound from close range.
Chelsea had a man sent off in the closing stages, with David Luiz given his marching orders for a robust challenge on Sead Kolasinac.
It was, on the whole, a positive performance from Arsenal. Here are our player ratings from the stalemate at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Petr Cech - 7
Commanded his area well and maintained balance well to deny Pedro in the first-half.
Shkodran Mustafi - 7
Solid performance at the back. Was unlucky to have his header disallowed, but it was the correct decision.
Laurent Koscielny - 8
Was quite literally willing to put his head in where it hurt. An astute display from the captain.
Nacho Monreal - 7
Solid at the back. Took no risks and defended well.
Hector Bellerin - 7
Made several marauding runs down the right and offered Arsenal an outlet.
Aaron Ramsey - 8
An intelligent display. Maintained a good position throughout, helped the team in transitions and was desperately unlucky to see his mazy run and finish come off the woodwork.
Granit Xhaka - 6
Wasn’t his finest display but wasn’t bad. Sloppy on occasions.
Sead Kolasinac - 7
Much like his teammate Bellerin on the opposite flank, Kolasinac put in a hard-working, energetic and efficient display out wide.
Alex Iwobi - 6
Didn’t have the desired impact in the absence of Mesut Ozil. Worked hard though.
Danny Welbeck - 7
Relentlessly worked and linked up well with his teammates. Arsene Wenger will hope that his injury is not serious.
Alexandre Lacazette - 5
Wasteful in possession by his usually high standards. Should have scored from close range.
