Arsenal have only brought in two players this summer in club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette and free transfer Sead Kolasinac and there have been calls for the Gunners to make one or two more additions before next week’s transfer deadline.
Arsene Wenger has been tracking Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka throughout the summer but could face fresh competition for his signature as Barcelona are preparing a move for him.
Barcelona chiefs were in attendance as Schalke beat Leipzig 2-0 last week and were keeping a close eye on Goretzka, as well as Leipzig star Naby Keita who is also a target of theirs.

Valued at £21m, Goretzka is set to leave Schalke next summer when his contract expires and the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have all been linked with moves for the Germany international as well.
The 22-year-old could replace the likes of Jack Wilshere in the Arsenal squad with the England international likely to leave the club this summer.
