Premier League side Arsenal are now in pole position to sign midfielder Jean Seri after Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona pulled out of the race for his signature, according to a report from the Metro.
The Ivory Coast international gained heaps of praise last season after hugely impressive performances for Ligue 1 side Nice.
The midfielder managed to get his name on the scoresheet seven times and registered nine assists and is the perfect box-to-box midfielder.
Seri has a £36m release clause in his current contract with the French club and it is understood that Barcelona were not willing to match that figure and are now pursuing other targets.
This has left the door open for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who can attempt to sign the 24-year-old this summer.
Seri himself is open to a move away from Nice, but only if he is guaranteed a regular starting position, which is something that Wenger may not be able to do due to the depth that the Gunners have in midfield.
There are a lot of clubs that follow me. But there is nothing done, if I leave, it will be to join a club where there is a real desire to play football as in Nice.
And I’m not going to be on the bench, I’m leaving only if I know I’m going to play.
The Gunners will now hope to push on with negotiations for Seri’s signature.
