Arsenal’s young striker Stephy Mavididi is expected to join Championship club Preston North End on loan for the new season after the Gunners didn’t allow the forward to rejoin Charlton, where he had a six-month loan previously, according to a report on News Shopper.
The young striker has featured for Arsenal during pre-season and scored three goals in two pre-season matches.
Charlton manager Karl Robinson was devastated that the North London club did not allow Mavididi to rejoin them on loan after his initial loan spell at the club ended with a serious hamstring injury.
The 19-year-old only played five times for Charlton but that was enough for manager Robinson to be convinced of his quality and importance to the side.
We were meant to meet him and for whatever reason, we weren’t given the opportunity to meet him.
Listen, I don’t know whose decision it was in the end but it’s part and parcel of the game. He’s someone that we like but it’s just the way football works.
The manager was also quizzed about whether any small glimmer of hope of signing the striker on loan for the upcoming season had been lost.
He replied, “I think so.”
Preston are hoping to confirm the loan deal soon.
