Liverpool make enquiry about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Liverpool have made an official enquiry to Arsenal as they look to agree a deal to sign England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
As reported in a joint piece from Mirror journalists John Cross and David Maddock, the Reds have contacted Arsenal about the availability of the 23-year-old and although the Gunners knocked back the request, there is a growing feeling around the Emirates that the utility man could be sold.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract is set to expire next summer and whilst his representatives have held talks with the club, a deal is yet to be done and there is a very good chance that Arsenal could sell the player this summer rather than lose him for free in 12 months time.
Arsenal have allowed Chamberlain to get to within one year of his contract expiring and they’ve done the same with both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, meaning they have a lot to work to do to contract-wise this summer.
Liverpool will hope that the pressure the Gunners have put themselves under could result in Oxlade-Chamberlain being sold and they’ll be at the front of the queue to get him.
