Arsenal eyeing up German playmaker
German Under-21 international and Schalke 04’s Max Meyer is reportedly the subject of interest from the Gunners.
The Daily Star report that Meyer turned down a new deal with the German club and currently has just one year left on his contract. Schalke have subsequently named an asking price of £20million for the attacking midfielder.
Meyer is currently taking part for his country in the U21 Euros out in Poland, and it is understood that a host of European clubs have been keeping an eye on him.
The 21-year-old has worked his way up impressively through the Schalke youth system from the age of 14, but it looks as though he has finally decided to leave.
He played 39 times across all competitions for Schalke last term and recorded two goals and five assists.
Meyer offers a flexible profile, with the capacity to operate on either flank and naturally through the middle as a number ten.
Arsenal won’t be alone in their pursuit of the German however, with it believed that Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Liverpool hold an interest in the youngster.
