Giroud ‘secretly hopes’ he’ll be Arsenal’s main striker
Olivier Giroud has revealed to Lyon president Jean-Michael Aulas how he hopes to be Arsenal’s first-choice striker next term.
In an interview with French outlet L’Equipe, as covered by Get French Football News, Aulas said:
There has been an approach, at some point, for Giroud. He told me personally that he wanted to take his time, that things were not completely defined with Arsenal, that he had a secret hope that he would be the number one striker next season.
The key is Arsène Wenger. We are watching. We will try to very quickly sign a top European attacker.
This comes amid reports that the Frenchman could be on his way out of The Emirates this summer – as Arsene Wenger aims to sign a world-class striker.
Giroud could potentially be used in a deal to lure Gunners target and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette to the club this summer.
However, other clubs such as West Ham have also been linked with a move for Giroud.
The likes of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck had been preferred to the powerful striker last season, and he’ll be desperate to get a consistent run of games in the coming campaign, whether it be at Arsenal or elsewhere.
