Arsenal defender admits he needs consistent game time
Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has told talkSPORT that he feels first-team football on a regular basis is key for him next season, in order for him to develop as a player.
The former Southampton academy graduate spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, showing off some impressive performances at the Riverside, but after contributing one goal in 26 appearances for the Teesiders, he could not keep Boro in the top-flight. They were relegated after a 3-0 drubbing to champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
A host of clubs have reportedly confirmed an interest in signing Chambers, with the 22-year-old set to return to Arsenal after the U21 European Championships in Poland, where he is representing England.
In this tournament I feel the experiences I got this year and the game time I got this year are helping me and I want to take that forward.
Next season I want to do the same. I want to play football, and I think it’s vital at this age – as a young player – to play as many games as possible to get experience.
Newcastle, Everton and former employers Southampton are among those reported to be keen on signing the Englishman.
It seems like Chambers would seriously consider leaving the Emirates in search of first-team football, desperate to prove his worth and become a better player in the process.
