Watford drop interest in Gibbs
According to the Evening Standard, Watford have given up on signing Arsenal full-back, Kieran Gibbs.
Watford were leading the race for the Englishman as Marco Silva looks to rebuild the Hornets squad for his first season in charge. However, it seems as though interest has been dropped because of Arsenal’s asking price of £15 million.
As well as the hefty transfer fee it is also understood that Kieran Gibbs is asking for an extra £20,000 a week. This would take his weekly wages up to £80,000. These wages seem very excessive and only the top eight would be willing to pay that much.
Watford are still looking for a full back and have now turned their interests to Middlesbrough full-back, George Friend. Middlesbrough value Friend at £8 million, a fee more in Watford‘s price range.
If Arsenal want to offload Gibbs this summer they may need to drop their asking price, with £15 million appearing to be too ambitious.
