Arsenal prepare bid for Schalke midfielder
Arsene Wenger is preparing to launch a £21 million bid for Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to reports in the Daily Express.
Goretzka, 22, is currently away with Germany at the Confederations Cup, and has impressed in their first two group games, scoring the decisive goal against Australia.
The Schalke midfielder has been tipped to leave the Bundesliga side this summer, with German champions Bayern Munich, Italian champions Juventus and north London rivals Tottenham all looking at Goretzka’s situation, however, it looks like Arsenal are going to make the first move and bid for the German.
The Germany international’s contract expires at the end of the next campaign, with Schalke’s general manager stating the midfielder won’t be sold this summer.
The 22-year-old made 41 appearances for the Bundesliga side last season, finding the back of the net eight times and registering six assists for his teammates in all competitions.
