The latest news out of the Emirates will surely have Arsenal fans scratching their heads. Ahead of Wednesday’s transfer window deadline, Arsene Wenger has made it known that they plan on making Calum Chambers available on loan, according to the Daily Mail.

What makes this news so puzzling is that Arsenal are very thin when it comes to fit centre-backs since Per Mertesacker and Gabriel are expected to be out of action for a prolonged period of time.

The 21-year old England international began the season with the first-team, starting alongside another youngster and recent signing, Rob Holding, in the Gunners’ 4-3 loss to Liverpool.

Although he scored in the second-half, Chambers looked shaky in one on one situations and found himself on the bench the following week in Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against the defending Premier League champions, Leicester City.

Adding to the drama is Wenger’s ongoing attempt to sign Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi, which continues to stall, while the deadline is nearly upon him.

While Wenger doesn’t appear to trust Chambers enough to start, he’s hoping that he will get the playing time he needs, since he still sees a future for him in North London. Which is why he’s only interested in sending him out on a temporary loan.

However, Arsenal fans have been clamoring for Wenger to sign a world-class striker as well as a top-flight centre-back, the prospect of neither materializing can’t won’t sit well.
