While Arsenal’s potential for any new singing seems to be diminishing by the day, the list of players going out on loan grows.
As confirmed last Sunday, Costa Rican international Joel Campbell has now joined Sporting Lisbon on loan for the season. Having fought off clubs who were looking to buy the winger, many thought he would feature in Wenger’s plan this season but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Calum Chambers is another first-team player that could head out on loan before the transfer deadline. His career has somewhat stagnated and with the emergence of Rob Holding as a possible centre-back partner with Laurent Koscielny, his chances of first-team football could be limited.
After a quiet week, many players have now played for their respective new clubs this week. Stefan O’Connor featured for Maastricht this weekend, while Wojciech Szczesny returned to Roma’s starting XI for their Serie A opener.
So let’s have a look at how the players got on this week.
Jon Toral
Jon Toral made his competitive debut for Granada. The Spaniard played 73 minutes but could not stop them drawing 1-1 with Villarreal.
With so many midfielder, Toral must replicate the season he had last year, if not better it to impress Wenger.
Daniel Crowley
Although Crowley did not make the bench for Oxford’s 2-0 loss to Fleetwood Town last Wednesday, he did come on as a 81′ minute sub in their 2-1 win over Peterborough United.
Wojciech Szczesny
As mentioned earlier, Wojciech Szczesny made his first start for Roma in his second loan spell at the club.
He kept a clean sheet, as Roma won 4-0 over Udinese.
Ryan Huddart
Having recently started against Dover Athletic and Tranmere Rovers, Huddart was an unused substitute for Eastleigh’s 0-0 draw with Wrexham.
Stefan O'Connor
O’Connor made his competitive debut for Maastricht in their 2-1 loss to NAC Breda – he came on as a 91st minute substitute.
Last night however he was an unused substitute in their 3-0 loss to FC Oss.
Julio Pleguezuelo
Pleguezuelo was not involved in Mallorca’s 1-0 loss to Reus Deportiu.
Tafari Moore
Moore did not feature for FC Utrecht in their 2-1 loss to AZ Alkmaar.
Joel Campbell
The newest addition to the list. Joel Campbell has joined Sporting Lisbon on loan. This season could be a big year for Campbell, if he plays well, he will surely attract many suitors and could possibly leave Arsenal next summer.
