Arsenal to target Manchester United defender
With Jose Mourinho taking over as Manchester United manager next season, many expect a few changes in personnel in the squad. One player who be on the transfer list at the Manchester club, is defender, Daley Blind.
The Dutch international joined United for a £16 million fee from Ajax in 2014 and has since become a useful utility player for the club, albeit he did spend most of last season playing at centre-back.
According to the Mirror, Mourinho is concerned about Blind’s diminutive stature, and has doubts as to whether he can play centre-back in his United team. Due to these concerns, Arsene Wenger has highlighted Blind as a potential transfer target.
Although Arsenal had one of the better defensive records statistically, at times the defence was very vulnerable and incredibly inconsistent. Calum Chambers has not developed as much as Wenger would’ve thought since joining from Southampton, Per Mertesacker is aging and likely to be released next summer, while Gabriel at times shows flashes of improvement, but also is liable to mistakes.
Blind may be slightly small in stature to play centre-back, his ability to play in multiple positions could be very valuable to Arsenal side that usually has a long list of injuries and could also be losing, second choice left-back, Kieran Gibbs.
