Arsenal preparing contract extension for Arsene Wenger
Arsenal are preparing a new deal for long-serving manager Arsene Wenger, according to The Mirror.
The boss has been the victim of many critiques and many fans were calling for his sacking after he failed to win the Premier League title in a season where England’s elite teams failed to show up.
Wenger will be managing next season with just one year left on his contract but the Arsenal board want to extend his stay at North London by offering him two more years.
Despite last season’s disappointment where the Gunners finished second behind Premier League champions Leicester, The French manager made it clear that he was here to stay and has send out a strong warning to his competitors when he signed Switzerland international Granit Xhaka for £32m early in the summer transfer window.
The 66-year-old manager is also planning to lure Jamie Vardy away from Leicester City for £20m. The move would help in adding more options for the Gunners upfront as they’ve struggled in that department in the past years.
The Mirror are claiming that Wenger will turn his eyes to Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski if Vardy decides to stay at Leicester.
The Bavarians rate the Poland international at £55m, but Arsenal have the resources and Wenger has showed he’s ready to spend big this summer.
Arsenal are not the only team monitoring Lewandowski as they face some tough competition from domestic rivals like Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool. The 27-year-old has also been linked with Real Madrid.
