Newcastle star flattered by links to Arsenal

Moussa Sissoko has revealed that he is looking to depart Newcastle United in order to play Champions League football, in an interview with French media outlet Foot Mercato.

The French international hinted that he is on the lookout for Champions League football, and has openly admitted this to Toon boss Rafael Benitez, who is keen to keep the player at the club.

Sissoko has clearly been open about his desire to exit, and Newcastle fans respect that. He’s honest about where he wants to be. At least he’s been truthful about the whole situation rather than just being there next season and not wanting to. He’s stated that his advisers have held discussions with the club about his exit, and is hoping they allow him to head for the exit.

Sissoko has been linked with Premier League giants Arsenal, and the Frenchman stated that he was ‘flattered’ by the reports.

“It is very flattering. Arsenal is one of the best European teams. To be watched by that sort of club, that proves that you are a quality player. It is good to know. I hope that I will have the chance, soon, to play for this club or for a similar club…

“It is a very big European club. I think that very few people would refuse to play for this club. Everyone knows, I often said it when I was young, Arsenal is the club of my heart, because there were quite a few French players there like Thierry Henry, Robert Pirès, Sylvain Wiltord, Patrick Vieira who was my idol…

“The beautiful Arsenal. We will see. I cannot tell you if I am going to go to Arsenal. For the moment, I am focused on the French national team and the Euros. I have advisors who are dealing with all of that and I hope that things will go well with as little difficulty as possible for me to find another club.”

Arsenal is a club that can offer Sissoko both Premier League football, something lost my Newcastle United following relegation, and Champions League football – something every footballer dreams of.
