Walcott misses out on Euro squad
Theo Walcott has been omitted from England’s squad for Euro 2016.
The winger, 27, will be watching his fellow teammates from home this summer as Roy Hodgson has chosen not to take him to France.
Famously included in the 2006 World Cup squad as a youngster, ten years ago, Walcott now faces an exclusion and a race against time to have any more of an England career.
Remarkably, the Englishman is Arsenal’s longest serving player on their current payroll. He’s spent more time at the club than Ian Wright or Thierry Henry did.
His form has been shaky, though, to say the least. His exclusion from this provisional squad, whilst a blow to him, is fueled on what he’s done this season – and justifiably so.
Walcott took to Twitter to share his disappointment and revealed he’d had a conversation with the England manager.
Twitter: I am of course disappointed not to make the squad, but I have spoken with Roy and respect his decision (@theowalcott)
His figures this season read: 41 games in all competitions, nine goals. Not a disaster, but not stats that represent someone who’s a shoe-in for Hodgson’s 26-man squad.
It remains to be seen now whether Walcott will indeed continue to be available for England selection.
