Chelsea attacking midfielder Charly Musonda has confirmed that the Blues rejected Manchester United, City and Arsenal in order to keep him on the books, instead sending him on loan La Liga side Real Betis.
The 19-year-old has been at the west London side since 2012 but has found game time hard to come by, and since making the move to Spain has become hotly tipped for a bright future – be that at Chelsea or elsewhere.
Musonda, an attacking midfielder who can also operate on either wing, told Voetbal Nieuws that while all that he wanted to do was play football, Chelsea rejected approaches from the Premier League giants, including Arsene Wenger’s side.
Nobody could know what Jose Mourinho had in mind for me.
It was simple: many English clubs wanted to buy me. Manchester United, City, Arsenal, but a loan was the only option for Chelsea.
Only one thing matters to me – playing! Whether I return to Chelsea or not.
If Musonda does not sign for Real Betis in the summer and cannot secure a place in the Blues’ side for next season, it would allow Arsenal the opportunity to rival other European sides for the signing of the Belgian midfielder.
