Isaac Hayden withdraws from England youth squad
Hull City’s on-loan Arsenal defender Isaac Hayden has withdrawn from the England under-21 squad for their upcoming friendly due to injury, the Football Association have confirmed.
The 21-year-old was in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the away trip to face Switzerland’s youth side, but will now remain in England with Hull.
The young Lions face the Swiss in a qualifier for the 2017 Under-21 European Championships on Saturday and currently sit three points clear at the top of their group.
With second-placed Norway not playing in a qualifier again until September, the trip to the Stockhorn Arena is a good opportunity for England to widen the gap at the top of their group.
Hayden is currently in his second loan spell at the KC Stadium this season, having moved initially in the summer before promptly returning for a second spell once his temporary deal with The Tigers expired in January.
He’s appeared 15 times in the Championship for the promotion hopefuls, netting one goal, but has spent much of his time there on the bench.
The Arsenal academy graduate made a further six appearances in cup competitions.
