Which central defender should Arsenal sign? You decide
Despite the clear progress that the Arsenal defence have made in recent seasons, many still think that the club are too fragile defensively. With the title bid seemingly slipping away and the likes of Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur edging closer towards a two-horse race, questions have begun to be asked.
Is it the defence? Is it the strikers? What is the reason Arsenal haven’t been able to mount a convincing title challenge?
If it is the central defenders, could any of these lads be the answer to the problems? Vote in Duels.

Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)
Another Frenchman in Varane, perhaps the best young central defender in the world.
He’d cost a hefty price, but Arsenal would be signing one of the best.
Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Club)
The 21-year-old Frenchman has been hugely impressive for Athletic since coming into the side.
He’s strong, good on the ball and a decent distributor.
José María Giménez (Atlético Madrid)
The Atletico Madrid man has formed a fantastic defensive partnership with Diego Godin, who he has learnt from fantastically this season.
Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain)
Marquinhos would represent a fantastic signing. He doesn’t get too many starts for PSG but has a lot of talent as well as potential to go with it.
Mateo Musacchio (Villarreal)
Musacchio is another who is comfortable on the ball and at just 25 has enough experience to walk into the side, but can still learn and become a top, top player.
Kostas Manolas (Roma)
The Greek defender is highly sought after in world football and was much linked to north London in recent months.
Benedikt Howedes (Schalke 04)
Howedes is massively experienced, calm and imposing defensively.
Another who has been linked countless times with a move.
Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)
Hummels is a top, top quality defender.
He’s experienced, strong and another who is comfortable in possession. Another who’d cost a whole lot of money.
John Terry (Chelsea)
Terry is one of the greatest defenders of all time. He’s leaving Chelsea at the end of the season and although he’s unlikely to join another English club, would bring plenty of experience to a team that needs it.
Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)
Agile, strong and part of the reason why Napoli are able to mount a serious title challenge – Koulibaly is a very decent defender.
He’s only 24-years-old, too.
