Mathieu Flamini
Whether he likes it or not, the Frenchman needs to leave.
The likes of Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny provide adequate cover for the defensive midfield area, while a number of other stars returning from injury provide Wenger with enough option to consider.
Flamini is far past his peak and is no longer necessary at the club. With his contract up in June, it’s difficult to imagine it being extended.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
It’s difficult to imagine a good future at Arsenal for the Ox.
Yes, he is young and yet to reach the best of his abilities, but what we’ve seen thus far just is not convincing enough.
His final ball so often lets him down and his statistics just don’t match up.
The truth of the matter is, the 22-year-old hasn’t progressed since he signed for the Gunners. It’s time up for him.
Mathieu Debuchy
The Frenchman is on the wrong side of 30, has someone 10 years younger than him currently occupying his position and has already been forced into an emergency loan.
Debuchy was signed seemingly as the natural successor to Bacary Sagna, but it just hasn’t worked out that way for the ex-Newcastle United man.
He’s been a decent buy, but ultimately a waste of money at £12m.
Debuchy knows that he is a decent enough talent and deserves regular football, but with Hector Bellerin ahead of him, he’s just not going to get that at Arsenal.
Yaya Sanogo
Sanogo is clearly not made for top level football.
He couldn’t even cut the mustard for Ajax, with manager Frank de Boer admitting he found it hard to identify any talent at all in the Frenchman’s repertoire.
That’s harsh, but seemingly true. He’s had a mixed loan spell at Charlton Athletic this season and if he continues to impress for the Championship club could actually show why he deserves his chance.
Sanogo will likely be let go in the summer, especially if a new manager is brought in.
Wojciech Szczesny
Ah, Woj.
He’s a talent on his day, but it just does not happen regularly enough for him.
It’s pretty disappointing to watch him forced out on loan, but what else was supposed to happen?
His indiscipline at a time where he should be nearing his peak is frustrating and he doesn’t seem to have convinced Roma of his talents.
Petr Cech will no doubt continue in goal for the Gunners next season and David Ospina provides decent back-up, he seems happy to be as well.
All that said, Szczesny is a man who likes to play, so he may have to leave in order to get that game time.
Emiliano Martinez
The giant goalkeeper is likely to leave Arsenal in the summer. With Matt Macey as third choice and Ospina second to him, it’s likely that the 23-year-old, already on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers, will be moved on in the summer.
He’s struggling for game time at the Championship club, so why would he get it at Arsenal any time soon?
Mikel Arteta
Captain fantastic is no longer at the desired playing level for a ‘leader’ at the club.
Off the pitch, it seems as though he provides everything you could possibly want in a member of the squad, but on the pitch, a captain needs to be regular.
His contribution is often limited, he isn’t agile enough off the ball and his distribution is slow.
In his early 30s, the Spaniard has been a good servant for Arsenal, but with his contract coming to an end and a coaching role seemingly impending, it’s time to say goodbye to Arteta.
Tomas Rosicky
What could have been?
That will always be the question looming large over Rosicky’s head.
Such a multi talented midfielder and when he is on the pitch, contributing, is as good as any of the Arsenal midfielders.
But the truth is that he is just not around enough, his injuries have sadly halted any career progression he could’ve hoped for and he’s just a squad player taking up a position that someone else could have.
Another contract unlikely to be renewed in the summer, when it expires.
Serge Gnabry (on loan)
The German winger is just 20-years-old and has years ahead of him.
Gnabry was supposed to have a breakthrough season on loan at West Brom, similar to that of Jack Wilshere’s at Bolton all those years ago.
However, it didn’t work out like that and Gnabry was rarely allowed game time.
He has time on his side and once the German is given some minutes on the pitch, he’ll definitely prove his worth. It’s time for a proper loan.
Matt Macey (on loan)
The huge goalkeeper is tipped for a bright, bright future, and with Petr Cech to learn from for the next few seasons, will undoubtedly have a solid career ahead of him.
However, it’s time for Macey to get some minutes under his belt and put practice into action.
A loan move could see him become favourite to take over from the 33-year-old in a few years’ time.
