Arsene Wenger likes to get his transfer business done nice and early, with him not known as someone who battles other teams for big name signings, nor is he the type of manager who likes to leave his business to the last minute.
The likes of Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Ismael Bennacer joined the north London side in the summer as somewhat unknown quantities, with the former already proving that he has what it takes to be a star in future seasons.
Arsenal appear to have taken a huge step in securing the signing of Kelechi Nwakali from the Diamond Football Academy for a fee in the region of £3-4m, with the player set to join in June once he turns 18-years-old.
But who is the Nigerian? Why is he one of the hottest prospects in world football and where does he play?
Check out our quick walkthrough of five things you need to know about the north London side’s latest signing.
Where does he play?
Nwakali is an attacking midfielder who can play anywhere in along the front line of midfield.
Expect to see him in a role similar to that of compatrior Alex Iwobi, both of whom come from Nigeria.
The 17-year-old is right-footed and played for the ASJ Academy as a youngster.
What has he achieved?
The teenager captained his nation to glory at the under-17 World Cup last year, ending as Player of the Tournament, capping off an impressive campaign that caught the eyes of not only Arsenal scouts.
Who else was interested in him?
The likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Chelsea and West Ham were all vying for his signature, according to various sources.
Why did he choose Arsenal?
Like many young Nigerian talents, Nwakali idolises Nwankwo Kanu, who was reportedly key in his signing.
The 17-year-old wants to emulate his hero, starting by playing for the Gunners.
Will he go into the academy or first-team?
It’s likely that Nwakali will go straight into the under-21s squad, while the likes of Arsene Wenger and Andries Jonker sound him out.
