This loan watch contains games from the midweek which included Birmingham, Hull, Southend and Rangers.
The loan system can be incredibly important in order for young players to gain valuable experience, but also for experienced players to acquire much-needed game time.
Out of the 11 players on loan, Jon Toral has impressed many since he moved to Birmingham City. Yaya Sanogo has recently been a revelation for Charlton, after having failed to gain any valuable experience while on loan at Ajax.
Unlike Toral, and latterly Sanogo, Emiliano Martinez has struggled to gain a place in the Wolverhampton Wanderers team.
The Young Spanish goalkeeper suffered an injury in December and has been unable to gain a spot in the first team. After both a midweek and weekend game for some, let’s see how Arsenal’s loanees got on.
The matches covered in this edition of loan watch all took place between 1st-5th March.
Yaya Sanogo (CHARLTON ATHLETIC)
It seems Yaya Sanogo is finally started to find his feet in England. After a poor loan spell with Ajax, the young Frenchman has been superb in his last few games for Charlton. Following his hat-trick last week, Sanogo was a constant threat as Charlton went on to beat Brentford 2-1 in the Championship, picking up an impressive assist.
Jon Toral (BIRMINGHAM CITY)
Jon Toral impressed once again in the last week. He faced fellow Arsenal loanees Chuba Akpom and Isaac Hayden. It was the Spaniard who came out on top, however, as he scored the only goal of the game, securing a 1-0 for Birmingham over Hull.
Emiliano Martinez (WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS)
It was another tough week for the Spanish goalkeeper. Once again, the young goalkeeper was an unused substitute in Wolves’ 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough.
Wojciech Szczesny (AS ROMA)
Szczesny played another full 90 minutes for Roma this week. The Polish international did not keep a clean sheet, but did help Roma to secure a 4-1 win over Fiorentina in Serie A.
Glen Kamara (SOUTHEND FC)
Although Southend had two games in this week’s edition of loan watch, Glen Kamara failed to be involved in either. He was an unused substitute in Southend’s 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra in League One and was not involved in their 1-0 loss to Chesterfield.
Gedion Zelalem (RANGERS)
Like Kamara, Zelalem’s loan club, Rangers had two games in this game week. The American international, however, did not play in Rangers’ 4-0 win against Dundee in the Scottish Cup, nor did he feature in Rangers’ 2-0 win over Raith Rovers in the Scottish Championship.
Chuba Akpom & Isaac Hayden (HULL CITY)
As mentioned previously, the Hull duo were pitted against fellow Arsenal loanee, Jon Toral.
While the Spaniard scored the only goal, Hayden was an unused substitute and Akpom did not make the match day squad.
Wellington Silva (BOLTON WANDERERS)
The Brazilian winger was an unused substitute in Bolton’s 2-1 defeat to Leeds United in the Championship, having faced criticism from Neil Lennon for his performances as of late.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (IPSWICH TOWN)
Ainsley Maitland-Niles came on as a 45th minute substitute in Ipswich’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest – a stark difference to the nine minutes he gained last week.
Matthieu Debuchy (FC BORDEAUX)
The French full back missed Bordeaux’s 1-1 draw with Ajaccio through injury.
