Over the last few seasons, Arsenal have constantly been criticised for not having a truly top class striker. Olivier Giroud has been a top performer for the club, however, many supporters believe that he is not the world-class sharp shooter that the club needs.
In the summer, Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Karim Benzema, but the deal never materialised. Despite the move never quite coming off for the north London side, the Gunners have been given another boost in their bid for a centre forward, with heavily linked Gonzalo Higuain now being attributed with a potential move to the Gunners.
The Argentinian forward has been outstanding for Napoli this year, and has been key to the Italian club’s hunt for the Scudetto. Higuain has scored an impressive 24 goals in 26 games and has been linked with a move away in the summer. As reported by the Mirror, Higuain’s manager, Maurizio Sarri, admitted that he is expecting interest from a number of clubs, including Arsenal.
I think that for a striker like that will come many more requests, not only by these two clubs [Chelsea and Arsenal].
Arsenal were linked with a move for Higuain a few years ago when he left Real Madrid. They did not sign the forward, and now many are clamouring for his signature after his goalscoring form, meaning Arsenal could be left with a tough battle on their hands to secure the player’s future.
