Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu has hailed Alex Iwobi as ‘the star’ that Nigeria have been looking for.
The 19-year-old has impressed many with his few performances for the Gunners this season, mainly against Sunderland in the FA Cup third round, where his composure and on the ball ability caught the eyes of experts and supporters.
Iwobi broke into the Arsenal first-team earlier this season and has now become a regular in the squad, with youngster already a full international for Nigeria.
Speaking to Arsenal Player, as reported by the club’s official website, Kanu, also Nigerian, claimed that Iwobi is a player who has ‘all it takes’ to become a top footballer.
He is a young lad and he has all it takes.
He just needs to work hard and keep his head down and keep pushing so he gets his chance.
Football is all about chances and when you have the opportunity you have to grab it. I believe he is going to make his mark. He is from Nigeria and we all support him and love him.
He is the star we are looking for. He is going to learn a lot from Arsène Wenger and the club he is playing for – we need him to bring that back home and make sure he can help the national team.
[He just needs to] keep his head down and not get carried away with a lot of things. Every day you train, you have to train on your weaknesses. With your strengths, you know them so you have to use them in the game.
The winger/attacking midfielder is expected to start for the north London side at the Emirates Stadium this weekend when the Gunners take on Hull City in the fifth round of the FA Cup, looking to defend the trophy for a third season in a row.
