Promising Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has revealed that he turned down an opportunity to play at the Emirates Stadium in order to sign for German outfit Wolfsburg, after his family and representatives were said to have favoured the move to the Bundesliga.
There was plenty of talk surrounding Osimhen’s future, with European clubs in the ilk of Anderlecht, Tottenham Hotspur and none other than Arsenal circling for the talented forward, however, he revealed to BBC Sport the reason behind him opting to join Wolfsburg.
It’s true that a big team like Arsenal wanted me and I feel honoured to be invited over. But personally I feel Wolfsburg is a ladder for me to reach my professional goals.
Osimhen first caught the eye of Arsene Wenger and Arsenal during the under-17 World Cup last year, where he led the line for the cup winners Nigeria as he powered home an incredible ten goals to help his country to yet another win in a major tournament at youth level.
Yes Arsenal is a good team for young players but Wolfsburg is the best club for me. This the best place for me to learn and develop because my heart is here with Wolfsburg.
The club’s plan for my career is very encouraging and I believe with God on my side I can grow to become one of the best players in the world.
Although the Nigerian starlet is not yet able to sign a professional contract with any club due to FIFA regulations, Wolfsburg will take Osimhen in at youth level and will look to reap the rewards of signing what could be one of the world’s brightest striking talents.
