On Thursday afternoon, Arsène Wenger revealed the latest team news leading up to Sunday’s pivotal game against Leicester City, as well as the progress of Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla.
As reported by the club’s official website, aside from Tomas Rosicky, Wenger anticipates the overall availability of the squad to be similar to the team from last week’s vital 2-0 victory against Bournemouth.
The Frenchman also mentioned that forward Welbeck is close to being back but that his season debut will probably have to wait until next week’s FA Cup Fifth Round match against Hull City.
He is doing well, it is a bit early for him maybe but he is now back to full power in training. It is a big possibility [he could be involved against Hull next week]. We gave him one or two days recovery after the under-21 game, but now he is back in full training. He has worked very hard and he is fit.
As far as the progress of midfielders Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, Wenger said that is it now a ‘matter of weeks’.
They are back running, they are on a fitness programme now so it means it is not a question of months anymore, it is a question of weeks for them to be back.
This update provides good news as far as Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League aspirations and their defence of the FA Cup. The returns of Wilshere, Welbeck and Cazorla sooner rather than later will be welcomed by the club.
