Former Arsenal striker Benik Afobe does not believe the club are capable of winning the league this year.
Afobe featured for the first time against his old team as Arsenal beat Bournemouth 2-0.
This was Arsenal’s first win in five league games, as they climbed back to the third position, five points behind league leaders Leicester, who they face next Sunday.
Afobe would be delighted if Arsenal win the league this season but, as reported by the Mirror, just doesn’t think that this year is the north London side’s year.
It would be great if Arsenal win the title but it has been the same story every year.
This is the time of the season when they normally fall behind and start losing games they should be winning.
They obviously have a lot of world-class players and I have only good things to say about them.
But there are a lot of fantastic teams fighting them for the title this year and also a lot of teams no-one believed could be in the race.
No one expected Tottenham would be challenging to win the league and Leicester as well. So Arsenal’s next game against Leicester this Sunday is obviously massive.
Afobe was completely shut down by both Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel in Sunday’s clash after starting well at Bournemouth and admits his side need to work more in order to improve.
It was a real experience to play against Arsenal for the first time but we have them too much respect.
They scored two goals in two minutes and that was enough for them. They defended well and were hard to break down. They are clever players and that is why they are competing with the best teams.
But we started off too slowly and have to do better in our next game at home to Stoke.
