Arsenal defensive midfielder Marcus McGuane, formerly Tabi, has signed his first ever professional contract with the club.

The deal was agreed on Thursday afternoon, with the player, who usually operates as a defensive midfielder, committing his long-term future to the club.

McGuane is an England under-17 international and first joined Arsenal at under-six level, since working his way through the academy ranks all the way up to regularly featuring for the under-21s.

Despite having never featured for the first-team, McGuane regularly trains with the senior side and has been tipped for a bright future.

McGuane, 17, made 12 appearances for the under-18s last season and is happy to keep the ball at his feet, while also possessing a tenacious edge to his game which could prove useful for the Gunners in the coming seasons.

The youngster can also operate in a number of roles, including on the flanks and just behind the striker.
