Arsenal are closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window with Nigerian hotshot, Kelechi Nwakali reportedly set to join the Gunners from Diamond Football Academy, according to Tribune Online.

Nwakali will be a familiar name to some with the youngster captaining Nigeria to under-17 World Cup glory in 2015, a tournament in which he was named the most valuable player.

The Tribune report that the stalwart flew into the UK on Thursday evening, with Nwakali expected to have his move to Arsene Wenger’s side confirmed in the coming days.

The 17-year old told the Nigerian news outlet how he will work hard at the Premier League side and that he wants first-team football at the Emirates.

I am going to Arsenal to work and try to be the best I can, and with God anything is possible, to work hard to justify my claim for first team football.

His move was slowed down due to obtaining a work permit and obtaining a visa, but it’s now said to be completed, with Nwakali’s teammate, Samuel Chukwueze also expected to join the Gunners before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

The midfielder is expected to ask for the number 25 shirt, famously worn by Nigeria legend, Nwankwo Kanu.
