Arsenal legend Paul Merson has predicted what he believes will be the outcome of the north London’s home fixture against Chelsea this weekend.
On Sunday afternoon, the Gunners will take on Guus Hiddink’s side in what could be a vital game in both club’s seasons.
Arsenal have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table, while struggling Chelsea can either win their seventh game of the campaign or plunge deeper and closer to relegation – currently sitting just four points above the drop zone.
The Gunners go into the game as favourites, and Merson agreed in his weekly Sky Sports prediction column that if Arsenal get the early goal they will so desire, they could quite simply run away with it.
After 22 games, Chelsea’s league position tells you all you need to know about their season. They are where they are for a reason. Last week showed exactly where Chelsea are at the moment. No disrespect to Everton but the way Chelsea celebrated the 3-3 draw like they had won the Champions League speaks volumes.
I cannot see Chelsea winning at Arsenal, the best they can hope for is for a draw. If Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez return, and Arsenal score early, I think they’ll run away with it. As a Chelsea fan I’d like to back them to get a draw but I have a job to do and I’ve got to be honest, so Arsenal will win here.

Arsene Wenger’s side have the chance to win their first league title since the famous Invincibles triumph of the 2003/04 season and with the likes of Francis Coquelin, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil all coming back from injuries, the depth of the squad could prove vital.
