Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso has admitted his curiosity at ‘what it’s like’ at Arsenal.
The 34-year-old is good friends with club captain Mikel Arteta, with the two growing up together in the youth stages of their career, before they went their separate ways – Arteta to Barcelona and Alonso to Real Sociedad.
Alonso’s impressive performances for Sociedad earned him a move abroad, with Liverpool catching the eye of the talented midfielder, before he left the Scouse club after a hugely successful spell with the club to join Real Madrid.
The experienced Spain international enjoyed a successful five years with the La Liga giants, a tenure which included a UEFA Champions League triumph in the 2013/14 season – the players second of his career.
Alonso, now at Bayern Munich, as reported by the Daily Star, admitted that he has kept up-to-date with Arteta’s career and hinted his interest at finding out ‘what it’s like’ in north London.
I follow him very closely because we have kept in touch forever, from when he move from Everton to Arsenal.
I want to know how it works there in Arsenal, and he’s enjoying it so far.
While a move seems extremely unlikely given Alonso’s age, Arsene Wenger may identify the talents of the experienced central midfielder irresistible, and could take the plunge on a move.
