With the end of this summer’s transfer window fast approaching, many Arsenal fans have been left wondering whether Arsene Wenger will be adding more than ‘just’ Petr Cech to his side, and it seems that the boss does indeed have his eye on another player.
According to Tutto Mercato, Arsene Wenger dispatched scouts to watch German international Lars Bender play in the UEFA Champions League qualifier against Lazio.
The 26-year-old has 19 appearances for the German national side and has earned himself a reputation in recent years as a solid defensive midfielder and could be the player to sure up Arsenal’s defensive play.

Last season, Francis Coquelin emerged as a diamond in the rough for Arsenal and looked to be the answer to the Gunners’ defensive issues. However, following a couple of shaky performances early this season, Wenger may have been prompted to bring in another defensive midfielder to either compete for a starting spot or even take over the leading defensive role.

Either way, Lars Bender would be a welcome addition to the Arsenal squad and should he impress the club’s scouts, Wenger will no doubt waste little time in trying to secure his services.
