Giroud backs himself to fire for Gunners

Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud has backed himself to lead the line for the Gunners this season, amid reports Arsene Wenger is interested in acquiring a new forward to lead the line.

Supporters and experts alike have been pushing the club to sign a new talisman, a marquee signing in the ilk of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, and Petr Cech, fantastic additions in the last few seasons that have strengthened the club.

Despite all the talk of Karim Benzema joining the club in the near future, no substantial offer has been made, and Giroud believes that statistically, he has proven Arsenal do not need to look elsewhere.

“I showed great mental strength last year and I had good stats,” said Giroud.

“I always try to improve myself and I feel with the team, so yes, I am sure I can bring something more to the team and to my team-mates.”

The Frenchman then spoke about the current Gunners squad, and said that he believes the mental strength, talent and unity of the entire team is good enough to enable them to put in a substantial title bid.

“When you want to win the league it is always a mix of skill and mental quality, technique and tactical.

“You cannot win the league without mental strength, so obviously we need that and I think we have got it in our squad, the team is fantastic, like our understanding between us together. I think we can do well with that.”

Arsenal face Crystal Palace on Sunday, and we took a look at who poses the most poignant threat in the opposition.
