Amidst increased reports of Arsenal closing in on Petr Cech, Chelsea’s skipper John Terry has come out and said that if the Gunners do sign the Czech shot stopper, he could potentially save them a lot of points in the coming season.
“There’s talk of Arsenal signing Cech and, if they do get him, he will strengthen them for sure. He will save them 12 or 15 points a season,” he said.
Arsenal have been in search of a reliable goalkeeper since the days of Jens Lehmann. Wojciech Szczesny had done a good job over recent years, but since his antics at St. Mary’s, he seems to have lost the trust of the manager both on and off the pitch and with David Ospina displaying chinks in his armour after a four month stint, Arsene Wenger is reportedly on the lookout for a goalkeeper who could outclass both of them, and Cech fits the bill.
“Petr was an unbelievable professional last year,” Terry added. “When you get left out of the team it can be hard to accept but, when he came in [to the side], he was exceptional.
“He deserves a lot of credit for that. We understand he wants to play first-team football but nobody wants to see him leave the club. He’s going to be sorely missed and will improve any side he goes to.”
The 33 year old Czech Republican lost his place in the side to the outrageously talented Thibaut Courtois and is happy to move to London rivals Arsenal, for a fee believed to be between £7 and £11m.
