Petr Cech’s potential summer move to Arsenal is dependent on Roman Abramovich personally signing-off a transfer to the London rivals, according to reports in The Telegraph.
Arsene Wenger is thought to be a keen admirer of the Czech Republic goalkeeper and has made him one of his top transfer targets.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he would rather see the player run out the rest of his contract at Stamford Bridge rather than let him leave to what many consider to be ‘title rival’.
But, as The Special Arrogant One said himself, “one thing is Jose Mourinho and another is Mr Abramovich”. Chelsea’s owner has great admiration for Cech and for all he has done for the club and could let him join Arsenal – where it is thought the player would like to go. His family are settled in London and have been for a number of years. He wouldn’t have to uproot them and could see out the rest of his career at the top level.
Besiktas, Inter Milan and Roma are all interested, and if they pay the right fee it’s hard to see Mourinho not try and push for him to leave there but if Cech’s true desire is to come to the Emirates there may be light at the end of the tunnel for Arsenal fans that are desperate to see an experienced goalkeeper between the sticks.
Reports suggest Arsenal have not yet made a formal offer but if given the green light by Chelsea will begin talks with the player’s representatives. The fee would be around £10 million. A lofty fee for someone of his age, but a signing that could prove vital if Arsenal are to go to the next level.
Cech would improve Arsenal no end, it’s just hard to see a club like Chelsea – who are notorious for selling sensibly and to teams in Europe – doing business with Arsenal.
